How Much Does Computer Repair Cost in Cincinnati in 2026?

June 17, 2026  ·  7 min read  ·  By Cincinnati PC Repair LLC

The number one question we get before someone books a repair is: how much is this going to cost? It's a completely reasonable question — and the frustrating truth is that most Cincinnati repair shops don't answer it until you're already sitting in the chair.

We're going to do something different. Here's a straightforward breakdown of what computer repair actually costs in Cincinnati in 2026 — by service type, with honest ranges and what affects the price.

Virus and malware removal — $79 to $149

Virus removal is one of our most common services. A straightforward infection — adware, browser hijacker, or typical spyware — sits at the lower end of that range. More complex situations like ransomware, rootkits, or infections that have damaged Windows system files push toward the higher end.

What's included: complete removal of all detected threats, repair of any system damage caused by the infection, antivirus setup, and a follow-up scan to confirm the system is clean.

From 16 years in Cincinnati: The most expensive virus situations we see are ones where people waited too long. A $99 removal becomes a $200+ job when the infection has been running for months and corrupted half the Windows installation.

PC tune-up and optimization — $69 to $99

A proper tune-up — startup cleanup, junk file removal, registry repair, driver updates, and Windows updates — typically runs $69 to $99 in Cincinnati. If your PC also needs a dust cleaning (which we recommend for machines over 3 years old), add $20 to $30.

This is the highest-ROI repair we offer. Most people spend $500-1,000 on a new computer when their existing machine just needs a $79 tune-up.

Laptop screen replacement — $99 to $249

Screen replacement cost varies significantly by brand and model. Budget laptop screens (Acer, older Lenovo IdeaPad, HP Chromebook) run $99 to $149. Mid-range screens (HP Envy, Dell Inspiron, mid-tier Lenovo) run $129 to $179. Premium screens (Dell XPS, Lenovo ThinkPad, ASUS ROG, MSI gaming laptops) run $179 to $249 depending on resolution and panel type.

Labor is included in all screen replacement quotes. Most screens are replaced same day once parts are confirmed in stock.

Data recovery — $99 to $299 (in-house)

Data recovery pricing depends entirely on the cause of data loss. Logical failures — accidentally deleted files, failed Windows update, corrupted file system — are the most recoverable and least expensive, typically $99 to $149.

Physical drive failures (clicking drives, drives that won't spin up) are more complex — $149 to $299 for in-house recovery work. True cleanroom recovery for severely damaged drives requires a specialist lab and costs $400 to $1,500+ — we'll tell you honestly if your situation requires that level of intervention.

Our policy: No recovery, no charge. If we can't get your data back, you don't pay for the attempt.

Windows installation — $99 to $149

A clean Windows 10 or Windows 11 installation — including file backup, fresh OS install, all drivers, Windows updates, and file restoration — runs $99 to $149. If you want us to reinstall your applications as well, add $30 to $50 depending on how many programs need setting up.

In-place upgrades from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (keeping your files and apps) run $79 to $99.

Hardware upgrades — SSD and RAM

SSD upgrades (replacing a spinning hard drive with a solid state drive) run $80 to $160 including the drive and installation. This is the single best investment for any PC with a spinning hard drive — boot times drop from minutes to under 30 seconds.

RAM upgrades run $60 to $120 depending on how much RAM your system needs and what type it takes. Upgrading from 8GB to 16GB makes a dramatic difference for anyone who multitasks or works with photos and video.

What about diagnostic fees?

We charge a flat diagnostic fee to assess your computer and identify exactly what's wrong. This fee is applied toward the repair cost if you proceed — meaning you don't pay it separately on top of the repair. If you decide not to repair, you pay the diagnostic fee and take your computer home with a clear understanding of what's wrong and what it would cost to fix.

We don't do "free diagnostics" that are really just sales pitches. An honest diagnosis takes time and expertise — and you deserve an accurate answer, not a quick upsell.

How Cincinnati PC Repair pricing compares

Geek Squad at Best Buy charges $100+ just to walk in the door, then adds parts and labor on top. uBreakiFix pricing is similar. National remote services like Geeks on Site charge $79 to $149 for remote-only work that can't touch hardware.

At Cincinnati PC Repair LLC, you're dealing with a single experienced technician — no commission, no upsell quotas, no franchise rules about what to charge. You get an honest quote before we start and you pay what we quoted.

Want an exact quote for your specific situation? Call or text (513) 485-5743 and describe what your computer is doing — most quotes take under 5 minutes. Or book online here →
